Missing 8-year old

http://blogs.ktvb.com/breaking/2009/07/police-evidence-manwill-was-in.html

Sad to hear this as Boise is supposed to be a peaceful city … its been a week since he disappeared but exactly no city is too safe wherever that may be!   There were lots volunteers in groups lead by police officers along the way when I was driving to the airport sending Lesley to catch her flight to San Jose … she is off to San Jose for the weekend, visiting former college friends from North Dakota State University.  Her flight itinerary was rather boring with a stop in Reno, NV ~ very uninteresting!

For those interested … also wanted to share  an article regarding the med tech profession …  If I had the brain, I would  have gone for this course.  But I was not even a Science student during high school?!

a brief ‘tasting’ session

with one comment

Always get to see lots and lots of wine but have never tasted all …  especially during a large event or function   and its almost impossible  to taste all.    I am not an avid wine drinker as well.    Please don’t ask me the brand name as I will never know,  all it is .. either red or white wine!  I guess that’s all I know … well let me find out from the Bartender?!

reception

Last week, had wine tasting with some hors d’oeuvres and appetizers ( I guess they are similar finger food) … nice stuff and would like to go for it again and again.  The wine was purely Idaho …  simple, sweet and tasty.  Some of them are Chardonnay, Roussanne, Semillon, Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir and the names goes on.   I am not good in remembering those names!  I like the purely Idaho St. Chappelle Soft Chenin Blanc – white wine.  Not only being so sweet, its the best wine I’ve tasted ~ it consists of approx. 22% alcohol!   At the same time, tasted Jamaican Rum Cocktail mix as well … too strong for me and did not really like the taste!

Needing a day off? Calling in Sick?

without comments

The subject is of course so common in the work environment.   In any situation when a call comes in, it is normally ‘acceptable’! What can we do …. They’re sick anyway and can’t perform normally.  We’ve got to accept the fact!   Some colleagues are so fond of calling in, putting the others in a difficult situation such as to cope of what is a ‘challenging’ task ahead, be it acceptable or otherwise!  Have got no choice?!

When Lesley came back from work this morning, she was furiously tired.  As I can see, she did not have time even to eat dinner/ supper.   Someone has indeed called in sick!!!

Sharing an interesting article below from the following website I’ve found > http://www.whyworksucks.com/sick.html I thought it’s a good article to read.   For me, we’re dealing with this almost at any instance at work … and it has become really annoying to everyone that does have good work attendance.

READ ON  ….. an interesting article!

The most common coping technique is what is known as the “sick day.” According to statistics that I just made up for the purpose of proving my point, 128 percent of Americans admit to calling in sick to work so they could have a day off, even when they weren’t, in fact, sick. Please note that the number doesn’t add up to 100 percent because of rounding.”

“So many people are calling in sick to avoid work that even management has figured out what is really going on. And these are the same people who can’t tell the difference between drinkable coffee and cigarette butts.”

The incredible popularity of “sick days” — or “mental health days,” as they’re commonly referred to by “sick” employees — is the main disadvantage of this coping technique. So many people are calling in sick to avoid work that even management has figured out what is really going on. And these are the same people who can’t tell the difference between drinkable coffee and cigarette butts. You’ve no doubt given up on impressing your boss, but it’s still important to be convincing.

One of the tell-tale signs that you’re not really sick is that you’re not at work, but it’s even more obvious that you’re lying when you very suddenly get “ill.” It’s even more obvious when you make an even more sudden recovery just as you use up all of your sick leave. But I bet you see your co-workers doing this all the time. One day, they are their regular old selves, busy complaining about how they have so much work to do and how they’ll never get it all done, and how they really should give it all up and study to become a tug boat operator.

The very next day, though, they call in sick. And not just with the common cold or flu. This illness is really something horrible — and rare. It sounds like sort of a cross between strep throat, chronic diarrhea and Mad Cow Disease. And it sprang up all of the sudden! They call in, complaining of weird body fluids flying out from all sorts of orifices. It’s impossible to breathe. It’s like a pregnant hippopotamus is standing on their chests while the papa hippo is sprawled out on top of their spleen reading the newspaper. And the papa hippo won’t budge. His eyes are fixed on the Family Circus comic, following Billy (age 5) from the swing, along the fence, to the neighbor’s house to smell the apple pie cooling on the window sill, to the other side of the page where he’s also filling in for Dear Abby this week.

And we haven’t got to the unbearable headache yet. It feels almost like acupuncture, except with lawn darts. They claim they might go to the doctor later in the day, but right now they’re busy trying to control the pain with “baby aspirin.”

Then something incredibly amazing happens. They’re back at work the very next day. Their eyes aren’t crossed. They aren’t dripping any odd-colored fluids. There are no unsightly hoof prints permanently etched into their foreheads. It’s almost as if they wired their entire life savings to that nut preacher on the televangelist channel who then arranged a special high-speed “salvation” charter flight to rush them to his studio where he waved his hands over their dying bodies, passionately yelling “Rise! Just as Bachrahd cured his flock of sheep when they tripped on a storm drain in the Valley of the Shininites, you’ve been healed!” It’s truly a miracle. They’re back to their regular selves… until next week.

Of course, it’s no miracle at all. Everyone knows they were faking. What’s truly amazing is how they’re able to get away with it all the time. Heaven knows YOU would never be able to get away with it. Your boss would want to know which intensive care unit you’re in so he could move the staff meeting there. That’s why if you’re ever going to try to pull off a sick day, you’re going to have to give a performance that would win you more than just the best actor Academy Award. You’re also going to have to earn Oscars for best special effects, lighting, choreography, and original score.

Vegas Rock N Roll ~ Pretty Soon?

without comments

Its already the last week of July and come August ….    Yes, we’re going to Vegas!    As a planned August trip and we’re truly so excited.    We’re going to have a Vegas Rendezvous …. yayyyy.  I’ve only 5 days so our trip will be packed … planning on a visit to Grand Canyon South Rim as well.  Am now collecting facts on where exactly ‘fun’ to be at in Vegas … It has been ages since my last visit …  POKER is already in Lesley’s mind!  I can’t play poker or rather do not know how to play poker but would love to only watch but with the abundance of  ’slots’, I am on top of the world!

Just praying that my leave won’t be taken back …. happens sometimes during busy period!

I was called back to work on my day off!   Lesley had actually planned on going out for a family dinner but called  it off so we would probably go out  on the ‘next available time’  that could please everyone’s schedule!  They were also distributing yellow ribbons at work and praying for an Idahoan soldier captured in Afghanistan ~ http://www.kivitv.com/global/story.asp?s=10758230d ~ and its very sad for the family right now.   We’re wearing yellow ribbons at work …

Time really goes by …….  Science,  Mystery and Emotional news going by as well!

without comments

No more a fan of Apple, at least for now but still considering future versions  …..  Its been almost 2 weeks since Lesley bought a new Sony VAIO … its the latest version and in its latest new color, metallic brown with the 16.4″ screen.     Its really neat and being new, its a nice new toy!    Its with the new 16.4″ screen, new metallic brown with huge memory as well.  I am supposed to create the recovery disk but have not done it yet till now … will have to do it ASAP.

The subject above .... is TODAY!
What a nice date that is ~ July 08, 2009!
Amazingly in running order!
---

I was called to  help out today, on my day off and ended up working a full day shift, instead of just being 5 hours to cover for the busy period of the day.  Was a fantastic day thru … sunny but felt cold in an air-conditioned environment, don’t really like it.  A Chinese Chef was  on schedule so we’ve had Chicken Yakisoba  or as we normally call it ~ Chicken Chow Mein for lunch!!!     He prepared like for 5 staff members and it was nice and tasty.  We can barely get something ‘oriental’ under the cluster of American filled hotel menu!  I like some of the menu but  do not like those that has lots of cheese in it, it taste terrible sometimes  -  to me personally but other people will like it.

I’ve been reading the July issue of Martha Stewart LIVING magazine – with the theme – a taste of summer.  There a just lots of food ideas to try out … have tried some of the simplest of salads for a change in my diet lately.  Like it a lot, I guest eating less can keep me a lil ‘fit’!

a sad end for MJ

without comments

Hmmmm … its my day off!      A pretty quiet day though  ~ I’ve been staying home and lazing around, just wanted to spend time being at home.    One thing I’ve done … watched Michael Jackson’s Memorial on TV.   It was an emotional time especially for his  family but it was a beautiful memorial event for someone legendary – what a huge coverage!    His children are so cute .. never really been so public before.   May his soul rest in peace.

Howdy … Its Monday morning!

with one comment

Its past midnight …. well 1.30am and not in bed yet.  I worked evening and got home at about 1am.    Was checking on my sister’s blog and thought I’d spend sometimes filling in here for a short note!   It has been a very busy evening but nothing to complain about …. nothing new, its been busy busy and busy! At 75F right now, its damn hot and have got the air-conditioner running!   Need to survive the summer heat and enjoy it till Winter sets in again when I’ll be complaining about  the freezing temperature and dreadful driving on snowy road!

Lesley is looking back past pictures of her and some were taken when she was a baby!  I told her that she can’t have those ‘look’ any longer now that she’s nearly 25!  Its always good to look back old pictures …and I am just glad I’ve compiled them nicely for her.
